Manos Loutas was born in Chios (December 1966) and grew up in Piraeus.He has played both electric and upright bass since 1980 (professionally since 1984) and is a familiar face on the Athens music scene, where he is known for his ability to groove in any musical situation.
Manos lived in New York for 9 years where he earned his Diploma in Jazz Bass Performance from The New School — Mannes College Of Music (1992) and has studied with great jazz musicians such as: Richie Beirach, Larry Grenadier, Doug Weiss, Jeffrey Carney, Richard Boukas, Richard Samalin, Phil Markowitz and Mike Longo. His performance credits in New York include The Rich Shemaria Big Band at Mondo Perso, Musical Off Broadway Show at Westbeth Theatre NY (1994 – 1995), Mathew Garrison at 5Spot club, Bob Magnuson, Brian Brake, Steve Thorton (recording), Arnie Lawrence, Dave Pullman, Willard Dyson, Dave Man.
Manos has also performed with Tia Fuller, Jason Yarde, Sibel Kose, Yiannis Kassetas and The Funk Wizards, George Kontrafouris, Christos Rafalides, Dimitri Vassilakis, Alex Foster, Jack Walrath, to name just a few. He has an extensive performance and recording background in Greece and abroad, he teaches, composes and appears in various musical activities in Greece and abroad (European Jazz Festival in Athens, World Music Festival in Dubai, House of Blues-Chicago, Beacon Theatre-New York).
