Stavros Lantsias quintet
On 7/8 the Megaro Gyzi Festival 2014 journey continues with the quintet of the exceptional composer, arranger and pianist Stavros Lantsias, who serves a wide range of music, including influences from classical, soundtrack and jazz music. Through his personal albums and live performances, Stavros Lantsias composes a special melodic mixture and proposes a new audio path that manages to travel the listener in such a way as to lose none of the melodic landscapes he will encounter on this trip.
One of his most important projects is the “Human Touch”, a jazz group he has formed with long time collaborators David Lynch (sax) and Yiotis Kiourtsoglou (bass) in 1999. His latest recording release “Diary of Dreams” (Dec. 2011) features the Athens Kamerata String Orchestra and world renowned musicians Peter Erskine on drums and Lars Danielsson on bass.

Giorgos Tsolis jazz trio
On 20/8 the festival΄s music program is concluded with the Giorgos Tsolis jazz trio, a modern trio from the Netherlands, whose sound and color of their compositions reflect the traditional jazz idiom with the sound of today. The members of the trio are the American drummer Owen Hart, Jr., the Polish bassist Maciej Domaradzki and the Greek pianist Giorgos Tsolis, who created and lead the group. They are permanently living and working in the Netherlands for the past ten years.
The main repertoire of the trio consists mainly of compositions by Giorgos Tsolis. The unique musicality and creativity of the drummer Owen Hart, Jr. and the excellent technical and musical skills of the bassist Maciej Domaradzki fit in the best way to the music of Giorgos Tsolis. Arrangements of well-known jazz standards have also been added to the repertoire of the trio.
The trio has participated to significant festivals in the Netherlands, such as the North Sea Jazz Festival (2010), the Jazz on 5 Festival (2013) and the Cutting Edge Jazz Festival (2013). For the participation of the trio to the latter, the newspaper AD Algemeen Dagblad published in June 2013:  “It is a matter of time before the Giorgos Tsolis trio will conquer the big jazz festivals“.
